It’s happening in October! Save the Date!

Dear K66’er,

It’s happening in October! Join classmates in Kalamazoo for our 56th reunion year. On October 20, 2022, we’ll kick things off with our traditional Thursday evening pizza party. And that’s just the beginning of our wonderful long weekend in Kalamazoo.

We missed our reunion last year but we’re going all out in 2022. Here’s what the K66 planners have in mind:

  • Lots of time to hang out, catch up and shoot the bull
  • Pizza party Meet and Greet
  • Dinners on campus and around town
  • Wine and beer tasting sessions
  • Brunches, lunches and late night munchies
  • Tours of old campus haunts and new buildings
  • Air Zoo visit – “like no place else on Earth“
  • Class memorial service in Stetson Chapel
  • Topical seminars and discussions
  • Music, sing-alongs and games
  • Guided nature walks
  • Tennis, swimming and other activities

It all begins on October 20th and continues through to the Sunday, October 23 morning brunch. We will be together until we’ve said our goodbyes and the last waffle is gone.

We have discounted rates, exclusively for our class, at the Holiday Inn West from October 20-23: $159 and $169 for “suites.” Handicap accessible rooms are available. (Reservations can be canceled without penalty.)

To book, simply call 269.888.4800.  Make sure that you mention that you are in the Kalamazoo College Class of 1966 to get the lowest rate. Book your room now.

Space is always limited in Kalamazoo during Homecoming. It is vital that you reserve now to be sure that there are enough rooms for our class.

SAVE THESE DATES: As you make your reservation, remember that the activities will begin the evening of Thursday, October 20, 2022 and continue through 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 23. You don’t want to miss anything.

I’m very excited about seeing all our Golden Hornets together again on that fair Arcadian hill next October.

July 2022 Class Letter – Highlights

Dear Classmate,

Finally, it’s happening! Our 56th Class Reunion begins the evening of Thursday, October 20 and continues through our brunch on Sunday, October 23.

The Reunion Planning Committee has been working diligently – and creatively – to host an event where there will be plenty of time for K66’ers to hang around together – on campus and off.

Some of our activities this year are sponsored solely by the class; others are organized by the Alumni Office. That means you’ll be receiving two separate registration forms. Form #1 is included with this letter. Please complete this form (the Class of 1966 registration form*) prior to September 1, 2022. Send Form #1 by mail with a check made out to K66 Reunion to Jim Tiefenthal. His address is on the form.

In September, the College will email the online registration form (Form #2) along with details about Homecoming. It is important that you submit both Form #1 and Form #2 in order to participate fully in the K66 reunion activities.

Some of the highlights:

  • Kick off our reunion with our traditional welcome pizza, salads and beer.

  • Don’t miss the chance to tour the world-class AirZoo museum, and the option to tour the museum, solve a murder mystery, build a rocket ship or test your skills in a flight simulator – sessions arranged exclusively for us.
  • Feast on delicious meals, thanks to Martha Staples Beverly, who has been doing food tastings all around town.
  • Pause to remember and honor our lost friends at the Friday memorial program in the Chapel with the guidance of Dan Busdiecker, Beth and Dick Myers. Linda Plein DaCosta is preparing a brief video tribute as well.
  • Gather at the fabulous Friendship Village Clubhouse. That will be our central meeting place and will serve as our Welles Hall for some meals – but the food will be better. (The Clubhouse is just two miles from the Holiday Inn West, where many of us will be staying.)
  • Raise your glass with Gene Losey who is once again organizing wine-tastings – or, at least, wine drinking. Plus, we’ll have beer from some of Kalamazoo’s renowned breweries.
  • Sing along with Gene Losey on the accordion and Kathy Shaw Kortge on the Dobro, with song sheets provided by Meribeth Matulis Freeman.

  • Tour the campus, meet current students and talk to our old and new faculty friends.
  • Attend the Homecoming football game, K vs. Alma. Go Hornets!
  • Enjoy the class banquet at the prestigious Park Club in downtown Kalamazoo.

  • Say goodbye with kisses and quiches at our Farewell Brunch.
  • And much more….

Stay abreast of plans as they develop by checking our Class of 1966 website.

Please book now to take advantage of our special discounted rates at the Holiday Inn West from October 20-23, exclusively for our class:  $159 and $169 for “suites.”  (Reservations can be canceled without penalty.)  As you know, accommodations during Homecoming can be very hard to find. Book directly by calling 269.888.4800.   Make sure that you mention that you are in the Kalamazoo College Class of 1966 to get the special rate.

If you prefer to stay downtown at the Radisson, book with the K College Homecoming Block. The rooms are $147 per night; parking is an additional $10 per night. Call the Radisson Hotel directly at 269.343.3333. (Please note that space is limited and rooms may no longer be available.)

Thanks to generous donations of several classmates, we plan to have shuttle service on Friday and Saturday to all class events leaving from both the Holiday Inn West and the Radisson Hotel. Additional donations are welcome to help defray the cost of the shuttles and other reunion expenses.

Even though the reunion is three months away, now is the time to act. Begin today by completing Registration Form #1 and mailing it to Jim Tiefenthal.

We will, of course, monitor public health concerns and follow Covid protocols. If reunion activities are cancelled, we will refund all fees.  We will also give refunds (less the $10 registration fee) for any personal cancellations made prior to October 1. For cancellations after October 1, we will refund 50% of the K66 registration fees.

I am really excited to see everyone. It’s time to get out and stretch our legs on that fair Arcadian hill.

Lux Esto!

If members of the Class of 1966 need a paper registration form for reunion events that are not sponsored by the College or if you need assistance registering online for College-sponsored events, please plan to email in mid-September, once the general registration is available.
